the week’s end

well week three of class is finished.  i still have yet to have a complete week.  The first week we started on wed., the next week my teachers were at a conference in washington dc for 2 days and this week was mlk.  not complaining.

yesterday was keri anne’s birthday, so we had a little scavenger hunt for her.  we ended up at cock of the walk for some yum yum stickin to the ribs good food.  also, tomorrow is mere’s birthday, so tonight we will be partaking in some goodness from amsterdam cafe! can’t wait.

This week we also had the season 5 premiere of LOST! wow, in my opinion, it is the most well crafted, visually stunning, thought provoking show on tv.  24 is a close runner up.  can’t wait for more clues and answers next week.

finally and most important, God has proven faithful as always.  since my graduation date was pushed back to december and wedding plans on the horizon, there has been added stress.  the Lord as given mere a peace about her job situation and in the process is helping our relationship grow and mature in this decision making process. constantly thankful and always having faith in His future grace.

with a little help

eric has nudged me a little today to start blogging more, so here it goes.

Christmas break was great fun.  most people would say that i tend to me more traditional and structured but when it come to holidays and breaks, i’m really not.  there have been so many changes around the holidays for my family for really as long as i can remember, so it is hard to have established traditions.  most of those changes have been the loss of a family member.  so i guess you could say i am an anti-tradition Christmas person.  don’t get me wrong, i still eat dinner on Christmas eve and open presents and go to the church service, but my family just takes it as it goes.  After Christmas we had some friends come and stay which made my break!  Zach was in town visiting his sister and flying out to see Mary, Tim came down for a day and we took some great pictures of downtown, and Keri Anne came for a couple days and stayed with Mere.  I am so thankful for the friends God has placed in my life right now.  i can never say that enough.  continual affirmation and encouragement!

The spring semester started out great, classes looking good.  I have the pleasure of re-taking geotech I again with the o-so-wonderful dr.elton, a new teacher in structures (could be good or bad), project management a.k.a story time with dr. crowley (all he does is tell stories about when he was working in the army corp), and traffic engineering analysis with dr. turochy (i will actually enjoy this class).

I have started to work out and exercise more.  I am staying a little more consistent with running, thanks to Zach.  We have also started swimming every tuesday and thursday mornings, and we have picked up Tim, Phil and Will along the way.  I love it!  It makes me feel so good to wake up early and get stuff done.  I have lost a little over 35 lbs.  woohoo!

The guys and i had our bible study/accountability group last thursday for the first time in 2 months.  With thanksgiving and the break, we could not meet till now.  We are currently reading John Piper’s Future Grace, and God is working through us so much.  It is great to have that conversation and be able to build each other up and sharpen each other.

In my daily Bible study i tend to focus so much on theology and the New Testament that i forget the other books.  I have been reading David’s Psalms.  It is a great reminder that sometimes we just need to glorify and thank God and praise him for everything!

mind dump

so i have never cared for walmart… most people know this about me.  when people ask my why i have any different things to fall back on.  first the story is poorly run and extremely inefficient.  why have 30 registers and only utilize 5 at a time?  that is a complete waste of money and resources.  second, there is so much stuff in there but most of the time the one thing i go in for is not there or they have one left and it is damaged to messed up some how.  but i have been thinking about it more lately and i think that there is actually more than that.  I think God has been working so much in my life going through Piper’s Future Grace, that i am seeing everything in a new perspective.  i look at walmart and see all that stuff in there…STUFF!.  that is all it is, so much that we have to have 50,000 sf of retail space to house it.  yes there are necessities and i am not saying that i dont splurge and get “stuff” for myself also.  i love getting presents and things but i think my motivation and priorities are changing.  God has been teaching me to be satisfied with HIM, not to rely on things to make us happy.  he will provide the things we need and the things that we dont know we need yet.  i will definitely be examining this more in the upcoming weeks as we get closer to Christmas.

hmmm…

Ok, so, I have never done anything like this before.  I don’t really know what I want to up on here but I guess that will work its self out.
